MWH is always looking for those in our community who want to be part of empowering those living with paralysis.  Below are the descriptions and qualifications to become an intern.  We hope to hear from you soon!

Neuro-Recovery Specialty Internship

MWH is a non-profit organization that aims to assist with making Recovery after spinal cord and brain injury and other chronic illness affordable and accessible to each client for many years to come. MWH inspire and self-empower those living with physical disabilities through intense exercise and advocacy.

Job Title: Neuro-Recovery Specialist Intern

Job Description: Interns are an integral part of our team which consists of Volunteers, Aides, Specialists, and Directors. You will gain experience in exercise progression, modalities, equipment use and safety, and be exposed to training techniques specific to reorganizing and reactivating the central nervous system after a spinal cord injury. As an intern you are expected to assist Specialists during client sessions, which often requires moderate to strenuous exertion. Frequent lifting and carrying of clients is also required throughout your day. Toward the end of the internship, if you have demonstrated a comprehensive ability to do so, you will be allowed to help design individualized workouts for clients and implement the workouts during one-on-one training sessions.

Daily Job Functions: The following functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensure the facility is clean and organized, equipment is put away after each use, trash cans are not over full, restrooms have toilet paper and paper towels, entry way is free of clutter, equipment is wiped down at the end of the day, water is full, etc.
  • Assist Specialists with lifts.
  • Assist Specialists with client workouts by getting proper equipment set ups ready upon request. · Assist Specialists with treadmill sessions.
  • Learn LDRS 101 and participate in continuing education courses as assigned.
  • Seek out befitting articles to help translate strength & conditioning over to the paralyzed  community
  • Learn FES (Functional Electric Stimulation) – its purpose, benefits, how to interpret output, and how to set up clients ·
  • Must be working toward a Bachelors of Science in Exercise & Sports Science, Kinesiology, Athletic Training or other related field such as physical or occupational therapy
  • Anticipated Work Schedule & Job Specifications:
  • Minimum Hours Required: 350 hours
  • Compensation: $250 monthly Stipend for internship

Media/Film Internship

Job Title: Media/Film Intern

Job Description: MWH seeks to find a creative, self-motivated individual who is eager to join our committed team of Volunteers, Aides, Specialists, and Directors. As a media/film intern, you have the freedom to capture inspiring highlights and milestones through film to share with donors, families and community supporters. You will gain real world experience in filming and editing short films and highlight videos for marketing, fundraising and promotional use. Your objective is to promote MWH and build awareness for spinal cord, brain and chronic illness recovery by creating inspirational, motivational, and informational media.

Daily Job Functions: The following functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Create 3-5 weekly images/videos for social media presence, including Facebook, YouTube & Istagram.
  • Film and edit video testimonials on clients for use on website.
  • Create short films on individual clients for use in fundraising efforts. · Capture client discussions with trainers during their workouts – of the sensory/motor feedback that specific exercises have on their body. You’ll create short videos to help spread awareness of the effectiveness of our therapy program and its impact on the restoration of one’s nervous system. · Assist in creating content for blogs, newsletters, etc.
  • Shoot stills of client training session and upload to REACT hard drive for marketing efforts.
  • Final project will be a 5-6 minute inspirational film for use at our fundraising gala, to highlight clients and their courageous efforts on their journey to independence and better health.
  • Qualifications:
  • Must be working toward a Bachelor’s degree in the Art or Film/Video department.
  • Must have your own HD camera and editing software. Anticipated Work Schedule & Job Specifications:
  • Minimum Hours Required: 12 hours/week, preferably 3 times a week onsite.
  • Start Date: position open until filled, requires 3-6 month commitment.
  • Compensation: $250 monthly stipend internship
